I have recently done a little bit of shopping, and I wanted to share what I picked up!
Sephora always knows how to get me. I got an email offering a sample of Laura Mercier’s new Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide foundation. Sephora says that it’s “a 12-hour wear, oil-free foundation that blurs the appearance of imperfections for a smoother-looking complexion. Laura Mercier’s lightweight foundation leaves skin with a natural-looking matte finish. It works on all skin types, visibly evening skintone and minimizing the appearance of pores...it is humidity-proof, sweat-proof, and water-resistant...” This sounds right up my alley. I got a sample in the shade Ecru, which is described as light with cool undertones. You only got to chose between 3 colors online, and this was the closest to my skin tone. It was almost a perfect match, but the undertones weren't quite right. I wore this foundation for 5 days, and so far, I am loving it. Even though my skin gets fairly oily, I typically do not like matte finish foundations, as they tend to look cakey. This one, however, looks so natural. And it wears great throughout the day. I went into Sephora last night to get color-matched, and they gave me a sample of Buff. I am still not sure this is the right shade, but, there are 24 shades in the line, so hopefully I will find my perfect match. Okay, so wow, that’s a lot about a free sample huh!?

I have been eyeing this next item since it came out. I finally splurged. I got the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I have the powder in Diffused Light, a pale yellow powder that I love for setting my under eye concealer and as an all-over finishing powder. The palette comes with three shades. Incandescent Light is a highlight shade exclusive to the palette. This has become my go-to highlighter. I typically don't like most powder highlighters, as they seem to emphasize my oily skin throughout the day. Incandescent light provides a subtle, lit-from-within glow to the face that I love. Dim Light is a neutral soft beige that can be used as an all-over finishing powder. Radiant Light is a golden beige that warms up the complexion.
Next, I picked up the bareMinerals Bare Tutorials Neutral Eyes Set. I have never tried eye makeup from bareMinerals, but this caught my eye. It includes the five-in-one BB Cream Eyeshadow, that is supposed to work as a primer, eye cream, SPF, and eyeshadow. The set also comes with an eyeshadow duo that contains a bronze sheen and rustic taupe, a brown eyeliner, and a mini blend and contour brush. I love the packaging for this set - the little tin is a nice touch. I am not sure how I feel about the BB Cream Eyeshadow yet. It is quite glittery, so I can only use a small amount on my eyelid. Overall, this set creates a quick, natural eye look. |
I recently ran out of the Urban Decay De-slick Makeup Setting Spray, and this time, I wanted to try the All Nighter Spray. It's supposed to make your makeup last longer and stay looking fresh. I reserve makeup setting spray for special occasions, when I need my makeup to stay in place for an extended period of time. I don't feel like they make a huge difference, but they do tend to make a difference, especially when you're going to be outside in the heat.
In the clearance section, they had a 0.5 oz Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster for $15. This is less expensive per ounce than even the largest serum normally. I thought this was a great deal, and I took advantage of it. I am loving this serum so far. But, I'm not sure that's a good thing because I really am not comfortable spending $72 on the 1.7 ounce full size product when I run out.
I have been interested in trying the Formula X nail polishes for quite some time now. I was looking through them online, and I decided to try out a top coat in Mesmerize. It adds a silvery, holographic finish to any color. I thought it sounded interesting, and I can’t wait to see how it works on my nails. I also got the color X ♥ Rouge, a candy apple red polish, for free as my Rouge Renewal Gift.
When I was in Sephora yesterday picking up the Laura Mercier foundation sample in a different color, I couldn't resist anymore - I picked up the Formula X The System. It comes with a nail cleanser, base coat, top coat, and a polish of your choice for $32. I chose Astronomical, a honeycomb nude polish.

From Ulta, I got the Revlon Matte Balm, in the shade Audacious and the Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup in Medium Glow. Audacious is a bright orangey-coral shade, perfect for summer. I usually wear a light layer for everyday, or you can build it up for a statement lip. The Airbrush Legs is great for special events, like an outdoor wedding, when you will be showing off your legs. It makes them look just a little bit more flawless and glowy, but nothing too drastic. |
Have you picked up any new products recently? I always seem to buy more makeup in the summer, even though I wear less makeup on a day-to-day basis. I just can't resist the bright colors and products that provide a bronzy glow!
